Sofia – The Capital
Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria. It is also the largest city in the country and the economic hub. Here you will find over 250 historic landmarks making it the perfect place to visit if you love history!
If outdoor activities interest you, you can find hiking, climbing, mountain biking and winter sports at the conveniently located Vitosha Mountain! Not many capital cities can brag about such an attraction!
The city is also a vibrant one, with lots of bars, restaurants and nightclubs to dine and drink in. You will certainly be very spoilt for choice!
Plovdiv – The oldest city in Europe
Head over to Plovdiv to visit the oldest city on the continent, dating back to over 4000BC! The ‘old city’ features a preserved amphitheater and traditional Bulgarian homes, among other interesting buildings. Another must visit if you are a history fan!
The modern part of the city has a great shopping promenade and beautiful parks to visit as well as lots of cafes, restaurants and casinos.
Sunny Beach – The beach resort!
The name gives this one away a little, but Sunny Beach is the largest beach resort in the country and is located along the black sea.
The area is the most popular area for international tourists seeking the sunshine, and they are well catered for by the 800+ hotels. The area is also very well known for some wild nightlife, aqua parks and, most importantly, beautiful, warm weather!
Varna – more sunshine!
Varna is the historical maritime capital of Bulgaria. It is the country’s third largest city and also located on the Black Sea.
Due to its location and fantastic, sunny weather, the city has several beach resorts making it popular with tourists, and features great nightlife, although somewhat more relaxed than Sunny Beach.
Varna is also known for its Archaeological museum which has famous gold Thracian treasures.
Bansko – For Skiing!
Looking for the best skiing in Bulgaria? Visit Bansko, one of Bulgaria’s top resorts boasting the longest ski runs! It also claims to have the longest ski season in Bulgaria, from 15th December to 15th May.
Bankso is very popular with international tourists who love it’s après ski offering of lots of restaurants and bars!
This ski resort is located 150km from Sofia in south western Bulgaria.
