Sugarloaf Mountain is the stunning and unusual shaped peak in Guanabara Bay that runs into the Atlantic ocean. It’s over 1,200ft, towering above the harbour! It gets its name from the. traditional shape of a refined loaf sugar.
There are amazing panoramic views of the whole of Rio and the bay from here. We would recommend a trip on the cable cars at sunset if you’re an aspiring photographer or just love to be witness to an amazing view.
Corcovado Christ the Redeemer
If you’ve seen any movie set in Brazil then you’ve seen the Corcovado Christ the Redeemer as it’s often used for sweeping panoramic shots. This statue is currently listed as one of the seven wonders of the world!
Christ the Redeemer is the colossal statue of Jesus on the summit of Mount Corcovado in south eastern Brazil. Built in 1931 it is 98 feet tall and 92ft wide.
This beautiful landmark is made from reinforced concrete in a mosaic of thousands of triangular soapstone tiles and is the largest art deco style sculpture in the world.
Carnival Rio De Jeneiro
Rio’s carnival is the largest of its kind and attracts over 2 million people per day for one of the most amazing and elaborate festivals in the streets of Rio!
The first Rio festival was in 1723 and amazingly has grown bigger and bigger each year.
If you want traditional Brazilian culture, music, dancers and food then do not miss this annual festival just before lent.
If you love sun, sand and sea then Rio has one of the most stunning and namely famous beaches in the world. It is most famous from the Barry Manilow song ‘Copacabana (At the copa).’
The magnificent beach is over 4km of beautiful sand and sea surrounded by the stunning city of Rio. The beach offers great daytime sunbathing with a flurry of activity from kiosks to favela kids showing off their soccer skills.
In the evening the beach transforms into a beautiful walk lit by the city with bars and restaurants along the bay.
Parque Nacional da Tijuca
If you want untouched, beautiful rainforest then Rio has this to in the Parque da tijuca. The Tijuca is the last remaining jungle preserve of the Atlantic rainforest and is over 39sq km.
It’s absolutely stunning mountainous terrain is abundant with high peaks, exuberant greenery, beautiful trees, plants and stunning creeks and waterfalls.
Perfect for the off-road explorer, sightseer and photographer. Even the photos can’t do this rainforest justice, it is something you need to see with your own eyes to appreciate the natural beauty.
