When your travel plans are disrupted due to unexpected delays, Allianz Travel's Travel Delay Insurance provides you with financial protection and peace of mind.
If your flight is delayed by 4 hours or more, you may be eligible for reimbursement, helping to cover unexpected costs and inconveniences.
Long Travel Delays often lead to extra costs, such as meals, accommodation, or alternative transportation. With Travel Delay Insurance, you receive financial support to ease the burden.
Allianz Travel Insurance ensures you’re protected from delays affecting your international departure from South Africa.
With Allianz Travel Delay Insurance, you can embark on your journey knowing that if the unexpected happens, you’re covered.

If your flight is delayed for at least the minimum required delay listed in your Coverage Summary, you may be eligible for reimbursement of:

  • Prepaid trip expenses lost due to the delay
  • Additional expenses incurred while delayed, such as meals, accommodation, communication, and local transportation (subject to daily limits)
  • Necessary transportation costs if the delay causes you to miss your cruise, tour, or connecting flight (e.g., rejoining your cruise or reaching your destination)
  • Expenses for missed departures due to local public transportation delays en route to the airport or train station

Example: If you're flying from Johannesburg to Amsterdam with a connecting flight to New York, and your flight is delayed in either Johannesburg or Amsterdam, you may be covered, as long as the delay meets the minimum required time and is caused by a covered reason. The current policy does not limit coverage to your original departure point, offering broader protection for delays that occur at any stage of your journey.

Allianz Travel Delay Insurance provides coverage when your flight is delayed due to:

  • A travel carrier delay (excluding cancellations before departure)
  • A work strike (if not announced before you purchased the policy)
  • Quarantine during your trip due to exposure to a contagious disease (non-pandemic)
  • Quarantine due to an epidemic/pandemic (e.g., COVID-19), if:
  • You or your travel companion are individually named in a quarantine order
  • The quarantine is not a broad restriction on an entire area or population
  • A natural disaster affecting your departure or destination
  • Lost or stolen travel documents preventing travel
  • Hijacking (except in cases of terrorism)
  • Civil disorder causing travel disruption
  • A traffic accident preventing timely arrival at the airport
  • Being denied boarding by the airline due to a suspected contagious condition (excluding refusal to comply with travel requirements)

  • Expenses covered by the airline, cruise line, or another provider
  • Flight cancellations before departure do not qualify as a covered delay
  • Delays due to personal reasons, such as failure to arrive on time for check-in
  • Being denied boarding due to failure to meet visa, vaccination, or documentation requirements

  • Obtain proof of the delay from the airline or travel provider
  • Keep receipts for any additional expenses incurred (meals, hotel, transport, etc.)
  • Submit your claim online via the Allianz Travel website with supporting documents
  • Receive reimbursement based on the terms of your policy
